Una de las bandas de hard rock más populares de los años setenta, Aerosmith, se llamo como una de las más notables en la historia del rock y regresó a estar en la cima en los ochenta y principios de los años noventa. Combinando el rock blues y la imagen de chicos malos que tenían los Rolling Stones con el metal vistoso de KISS, Aerosmith anotó varios hits en la radio y puso en auge el estallido de las bandas de metal de los años ochenta. Aerosmith empezó en 1970 en Sunapee, N.H., donde el vocalista Steven Tyler se encontró primero con el guitarrista Joe Perry. Junto con el bajista Tom Hamilton, baterista Joey Kramer y Ray TabanoBrad Whitford), la banda se translado a Boston, después en ese ese año, se volvieron los favoritos del club en el Nordeste. Después de firmar con Columbia, el grupo soltó su debut album eponymous en 1973.
